Dear Friend,

If you’re reading this, I’m guessing you’re about to begin something beautiful, a journey through the Bible. Maybe you’ve read parts of it before. Maybe not at all. Maybe you’re full of faith, full of questions, or just full of life right now.

Wherever you are, I want you to know this: you matter to God. You are not an accident in this story. You’re not too late, and you’re not too far gone.

The Bible is more than a book of do’s and don’ts, or stories dusted with age. It’s a true story, the story of God’s relentless love for His people, and of how that love stepped into our world in the person of Jesus.

Before we dive into the pages together, I wanted to share the heart of that story with you first. Not as a lecture… but as a letter. From one person who cares deeply, to another.

Not Just Stories

Open a Bible, and it can look like a collection of ancient stories, laws, poems, and letters, scattered across centuries. But step back far enough, and something else comes into focus. It is one story, told over thousands of years, through hundreds of people, in different languages and cultures, all converging on the same point. It is not religious folklore. It is the history of humanity’s ache, and of God’s pursuit, and of the moment those two finally met.

Every family in it, every exile, every long silence and sudden rescue… these are part of your story too, whether you’ve ever opened its pages or not. This is the story of the human condition. Yours included.

A Mystery Hidden, Then Revealed

There is a word the Bible uses for what runs through it, thread by thread: mystery. Not hidden because God was withholding it, but hidden the way a story’s ending is hidden until you’ve read enough to understand it.

From the earliest pages, there are hints of a rescue coming. A promise made to one family, that through them the whole world would be blessed. A pattern of God stepping into the mess of human history again and again, refusing to leave people to figure it out alone. Every thread, every wandering nation, every strange and beautiful prophecy, was pointing somewhere. To Jesus.

Who Jesus Is

Jesus was a real man who lived in a real place in history, not a legend passed down. But the Bible claims something far stranger, and far more wonderful, than a good teacher or a wise prophet. It claims that in Jesus, God Himself put on flesh and walked among us. Fully God, and fully human. Close enough to touch, to weep with, to be betrayed by, to die.

This is the heart of the mystery. Not a distant God shouting instructions from far away, but a God who came close.

Take a breath. You don’t have to figure everything out right now. Just know this: the Author of the universe knows your name, and has been writing you into His story all along.

Why We Need Him

Here is the part of the story that is honest about being human. Something is broken in us and in the world around us. We feel it. The guilt we cannot quite shake. The relationships we fracture without meaning to. The ache for something we can’t quite fully name. The Bible calls this sin, not only the wrong things we do, but the deep separation between us and the God we were made to know.

We cannot close that distance on our own, no matter how good we try to be. Left there, the story would end in tragedy. But it doesn’t end there.

What He Did

Jesus, who had done nothing wrong, willingly gave up His life on a cross, taking on Himself the weight of everything separating us from God. Three days later, He rose from the dead, breaking the power of death itself. Not a metaphor. Not a symbol. An actual rescue, accomplished once, for everyone who receives it.

In simplest terms: Jesus died for our sins, rose again, and because of that, reconciliation with God is now available to us through Him.

This is what makes it good news rather than good advice. It was not left for us to earn. It was given.

“God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8

You Are Loved

Whatever brought you to this page, curiosity, someone who loves you, or something you can’t quite explain, know this: God has not been distant from your story. He has been present in it all along, quietly, patiently, waiting. Not waiting for you to become worthy. Not asking you to clean yourself up before you come. Loving you, specifically, the way an Author loves the characters written with tenderness into every page.

Where the Story Meets You

The mystery revealed is simply this: Jesus, given for you, offered to you, inviting you into the rest of the story.

To receive Him is to trust Him: to believe that Jesus is Lord, to turn toward Him and away from the sin that has separated you from God, and to place your life in His hands. Not a performance. Not cleaning yourself up first. Simply trust, freely offered and freely received.

If any of this stirs something in you, you don’t have to have it all figured out. You’re invited to keep reading, keep asking, and see where the story leads.

If You Want to Respond

There is no magic formula, no password to get right. If you want to talk to Jesus, you can simply speak to Him honestly, in your own words, right where you are.

If it helps to have a place to start, you’re welcome to pray something like this. Remember, the prayer itself doesn’t save you. Jesus does. These are simply words to help you begin.

A prayer to begin

“Jesus, I believe You are who You say You are. I believe You died for my sins and rose again. I know I cannot make myself right with God on my own. I turn to You, and I ask You to forgive me, save me, and teach me to follow You. I give You my life. Amen.”

What Now?

If something in this has taken hold of you, here are three simple next steps.

Talk to Jesus. You don’t need fancy words. Begin talking to Him honestly, the way you’d talk to someone who already knows you completely and loves you anyway.

Keep reading. Start with one of the Gospels, the biographies of Jesus’s life. John is a wonderful place to begin. Watch who Jesus is for yourself.

Find His people. Look for a healthy, Bible-teaching church and a mature Christian who can walk alongside you as you take these first steps.

“In Him we live and move and have our being.” Acts 17:28
