Summary of Proverbs 31:15

The virtuous wife wakes up before morning to prepare food for her entire household.

My notes from Proverbs 31:15

I am not a morning person, nor have I ever been.

As a child, I remember waking up in the morning and barely able to open my eyes.

The word around me was fuzzy and it took time for it all to become clear.

Now as a wife and mother, I am still a slow riser. I am one of those people that requires a steamy cup of coffee to get the gears going.

Just because I am not a morning person does not mean I cannot rise early. I make the choice to provide food for my household.

It’s my way of saying I love you, I care about you.

I love waking up to my husband kissing my head and telling me those beautiful words ā€œThere’s coffee!ā€

I stumble out to the kitchen in my robe and he laughs at me as I make eggs from our little homestead.

My husband is a morning person. He wakes up and is absolutely happy about it. His brain is firing on all cylinders and all is well in his world. It must be nice lol!

I didn’t decide to wake up early and make food every morning out of a demand or obligation placed on me. I actually was inspired by another woman’s example.

A Life-Altering Impression

I had a dear friend who once told me a story about her mother.

She admired her parent’s love and the close relationship they had maintained even after years of marriage and a big family.

My friend described to me how her mother would get up every morning before her father would go to work and make him eggs and have coffee with him.

No matter how early she had to wake up she made it a point to serve her husband and make time for him even though she could have been sleeping.

He was a police officer, so I can’t imagine how crazy some of his shifts may have been. Her example of love and the mutual respect and intimacy they had for each other spoke volumes to their children.

Without saying a word, she not only blessed her family but impacted those around her. Obviously, it left an impression on me. Just hearing my friend describing her parents changed my mind about early rising.

I made the decision to follow that example. I wanted to bless my husband every day. As soon as we were married my husband would wake up early, have his quiet time with the Lord, then wake me up whispering those sweet words, ā€œThere’s coffee!ā€

After I deliriously make eggs, we sit together talking over coffee. I love spending time with my best friend before he goes off to work for the day. That time in the morning blesses me just as much as it blesses him.

Now, when I see this verse about the virtuous wife who rises early and prepares food for her family, I always think of my dear friend’s mother. A woman of grace. Who lives out her faith and love, not by words alone, but by her actions. She is truly a woman of God!

Simple Truths

  1. Rising early to serve our family is a love language.
  2. Sometimes doing things that are uncomfortable at first can become a greater blessing.
  3. Our actions speak to others.

Questions:

  1. What actions might leave an impression on your children or others?
  2. Are there other women that have made a positive impact on you?
  3. Is there something that is outside of your comfort zone that might be worth trying?
