My notes from Proverbs 31:28-29

When We Don’t Feel Praiseworthy like Proverbs 31:28-29

I’ll have to admit, this has been a difficult week for me. I had a medical procedure that I had to prepare for and undertake. This left me little time to prepare and study like I usually do. So I found myself sitting here, Thursday evening before my Friday deadline. I began to feel discouraged and defeated.

Reading this verse made me question, who am I to write about this woman? How am I qualified to study or comment on this amazing woman when I can’t even prepare until the last moment?

Then I realized, that is not what God thinks of me. I bet most women ask themselves the same question. Who am I to do XYZ? How can I ever be good enough?

The answer is, YOU CAN’T, I CAN’T, and we don’t have to be good enough. Proverbs 31 was never about us. It’s not about attaining perfection. We are incapable of being everything to everyone and perfect in every moment.

Life Doesn’t Always Go As Planned

Yesterday, I was so dehydrated and nauseous with an extreme headache that it prevented me from making my husband breakfast. The night before, I was so incapacitated, that I couldn’t cook dinner. I was preparing for a medical procedure and the preparation was so harsh on my body that I couldn’t do the things that I always do.

Sometimes we experience situations in our life that bring us to the point of surrender. We are incapable of performing. All that is left is trust.

Trust in God, that it will be ok. Your value does not come from your performance. Your value comes from the One who made you. Just like a piece of art holds no value until someone desires it. You are priceless because God says so, He desired you to come into being. Your worth is more than the tasks you can perform.

The enemy will use our weaknesses to put doubt in our minds, to make us feel insignificant, or not good enough but God…

God shows us through His word and actions that we don’t have to be good enough. We are already treasured. Jesus completed the tasks for us. He was beyond good enough. He was perfect, no blemishes. Jesus lived a sinless life and took our failures upon himself.

Jesus extended His hand to us. He sees us as His perfect bride, no spot or blemish because he covers us with his perfection. He will present us to the Father and we will abide in peace and joy and never feel condemned again.

Embrace the Truth

So my beautiful sister, if you are feeling defeated like I felt today, then please refuse that lie and embrace the truth.

You are blessed. You are praiseworthy. Not because of anything you could do, or have done, but because of who Christ is and what He has finished. Your life is a testament of praise to the Father, Son, & Holy Spirit.

You are a woman of God. Many women have done well, yet you have excelled them all. Whether or not your children or husband if you have a family say so, it’s still true, because that is what the Father thinks of you already. Think of Proverbs 31:28-29 as a reminder of your Abba singing over you a blessing and praise!

  • God rejoices in you.
  • His face shines upon you.
  • He sings over you.
  • He covers you with His love.
  • There is no one like you.
  • You are special to Him.

The LORD your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.ā€

Zephaniah 3:17 NKJV

ā€œThe LORD bless you and keep you; The LORD make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; The LORD lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace.ā€

Numbers 6:24-26 NKJV

I will praise You; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are Your works; and that my soul knows very well.

Psalms 139:14

Instead of going in-depth about the Hebrew word for praise and painting a picture of a husband joyfully singing over his wife, these words poured out of my heart. So I hope they are an encouragement to you!

Remember when you read Proverbs 31 that it is a lesson meant for men, on how to live, behave and find a good wife.

Jewish men are taught to sing this over their wives at Shabat. Proverbs 31:28-29 is an example of that boisterous singing!

Don’t be discouraged if you don’t feel like you do enough to be considered praiseworthy. Because you are. You have always been. The moment you became a woman after God’s own heart you qualified! Our salvation is all that matters. What we do with it after, is our gift. Let’s share that hope with others and keep planting and growing more hope!

The Virtuous wife, Proverbs 31 Woman, whatever you call her, think of her as a map that gently guides our steps. Her example reminds us to Love God and love others. The praise and blessings naturally come when our focus is on the true prize. Jesus!

As for my medical procedure, don’t worry about me. My God is Jehovah Rapha ā€œThe Lord who heals!ā€

He has healed me from all my symptoms. My procedure came out clear and healthy! I knew it would!

Of course, He knows my greatest desire and I believe He will grant me that desire. I want to be like Enoch, Enoch walked with God, then was not, for God took him! That is how this half of my story will end. And my hope is set to live on for eternity after that with my Abba.

Simple Truths from Proverbs 31:28-29

  1. We all feel defeated sometimes.
  2. You are covered with the perfection Jesus already attained.
  3. You are a woman after God’s own heart and we all need to start walking with our heads lifted up!

Questions to Ponder from Proverbs 31:28-29:

  1. Have you ever felt you missed the ball (failed at a task?)
  2. What is a lie of discouragement you have believed?
  3. Find 3 verses that oppose that lie and read them to yourself any time you feel condemnation.
