Summary of Proverbs 31:25

The Proverbs 31 woman is covered in strength and honor. Because of that, she will rejoice in the future.

My notes from Proverbs 31:25

I have always loved this verse. It speaks of a promise for women whose hearts are for the Lord. A virtuous woman will be covered in strength and dignity. She will rejoice in the days to come.

Let’s compare different versions of this verse. The wording may be different, but the message stays the same.

ā€œShe is clothed with strength and dignity,

and she laughs without fear of the future.ā€

Proverbs 31:25 NLT

ā€œShe is clothed with strength and dignity,

and she laughs without fear of the future.ā€

Proverbs 31:25 NIV

ā€œStrength and dignity are her clothing,

and she laughs at the time to come.ā€

Proverbs 31:25 ESV

Honor and Strength in Proverbs 31:25

As we can see the word hĆ¢dĆ¢r means honor and can be easily replaced with dignity since dignity is the definition of honor from Webster’s 1828 dictionary.

The unchanging theme in this verse is strength. Her strength has nothing to do with her muscles or physical power but her strength of mind. She has a strong mind that is unwavering and stable.

She is clothed with strength and honor and because of that, she can rejoice in the days before her.

She is aware of her strength. She has perfect trust and perfect faith. One that we all strive to have. How can we attain this strength of mind?

There is only one way for us to have a strong mind and that is faith! Faith that doesn’t stem from ourselves, our own power, or our accomplishments. If we had to rely solely on our own strength then of course we would be in a sorry mood.

Where Strength Comes From Proverbs 31:25

Our strength is dependent upon only one thing. Our salvation. Salvation comes only from Jesus Christ, who being fully man and fully God, lived a perfect, sinless life. The life we could never attain. Then He took upon Himself our sin as if it was His own.

He suffered and died being separated for the first time ever from God the Father. In doing so, He conquered death. Rose from the dead. Ascended into heaven, where He is preparing a place for us so that where He is, we may be also.

And He didn’t stop there, He sent a comforter, the Holy Spirit to live in us, speak to and for us, and give us power. So we will never be alone.

When we truly understand the magnitude of what Jesus did, then we should live a life that is in constant rejoicing!

I am not saying we will never be sad, or suffer. On the contrary, it is guaranteed that we will suffer in this world. Even more so as believers. Salvation doesn’t mean an end to current suffering, it means we have hope and a future and will one day be in the presence of the all-loving God our Creator!

There Will Be an End to This Suffering

Don’t fret there will ultimately be an end to suffering. Not in this world, but in the next. Some people think that religion is the pursuit to end suffering. The truth is when you have a relationship with the true and living God, you will still experience suffering, but your hope is not in your circumstances. Your hope is solely in God.

Some may say, well that sounds nice but how do I get out of this depression or fear or anxiety if I am still going to experience it?

Some things only God can comfort. Some things may seem like they are never-ending. But the truth is, this will pass. There is an end to your pain, there is an end to your fear, there is an end to your suffering and you need to hold onto that hope.

What can you do while in the middle of suffering?

ā€œRejoice! Rejoice in the Lord, always, again, I say rejoice!ā€

Joy is not a feeling. You will not only experience it when your situation all aligns. Joy is a lifestyle, a choice we make moment by moment.

What Jesus did on the cross is above and beyond anything we need to be able to rejoice! And that is not even recounting everything that happened before that time. God has done so many things to bring us to a place of completeness.

God is not an angry power-hungry God who wants praise and control. If that were the case He wouldn’t have created us with free will.

God is a loving God, who time after time gently instructs us in the path that will give us true freedom. He didn’t make the law in order to control us, but to show us a better way. The law guides us away from hate, jealousy, and selfishness. It also reflects our hearts so we can see that we need a Saviour. We are incapable of perfectly keeping the law. God knew that and provided a better way!

You are Important to God

He gave Himself for you! When you begin to realize who you are to God, you will be able to be clothed with strength and dignity and laugh without fear of the future.

We look at these remarkable people in the bible who were so precious and close to God! Wow, they must have been so important! They must have had a better heart!

Well, let me tell you, no, they didn’t. They were just as human as you and I. Some of them chose to have a soft heart and honor the Lord with their lives. In contrast, some of them committed grave sins that grieved God. And still, they were loved and highly favored.

Can I tell you a secret?

You are loved and highly favored too! Yes, your life is just as important to God as Esther, Ruth, Mary, and even King David, or King Solomon. God is completely immersed in your very being. He created you. He knows you more than anyone in this world. He sees you completely and loves you. He has pursued you since your creation.

It’s easy to think, those people matter, well you do too. God is all-knowing, all-present, all-powerful and his heart is to be with you! You precious, beautiful woman. All He wants is your heart, and He wants it because He knows that any other choice you make other than Him will ultimately lead to your suffering.

Joy is a Choice Proverbs 31:25

Now you have a choice. You can continue looking at your circumstances. Stay in that state of fear, anxiety, depression, anger, loneliness, etc. or you can choose to look at the big picture and trust the God who created everything, who loves you and has your welfare in mind.

You can choose to rejoice in all circumstances. Clothing yourself with strength and dignity and laughing without fear of the future because you know He holds the future.

Grieve with Hope

It’s okay to grieve, He mourns with those who mourn and comforts us in our grief. In fact, we have to go through our grief in order to get to the other side. Our bodies were made to experience emotions. That is how we heal.

So when I say rejoice, in the moments when our hearts are broken, we are not to pretend they are not. We are to grieve, deeply and honestly, giving God our hearts because He already knows.

But in our grief, we cling to hope. As long as we have a shred of hope to hang onto then we will not be consumed. We can have joy by being thankful for God.

When we lose something in our life, whether it be a loved one, a situation, or our life changes drastically in a way we never expected we need to grieve. But we can rest in God that even in this, He will get us through.

Every time I miss my daughter, I thank God for the day I will get to hold her close. When I miss my grandpa, I thank God for having such an awesome grandpa. When I miss my dad, I thank God that He let me find him and have 10 years getting to know him. When I miss my friend, I thank God for the beautiful strong woman she was and her strength. She showed me that it is okay to call out injustice and stand up for the weak.

We are all grieving at some point. Sometimes we never truly get past it, in a moment we can be hit with a rush of unexpected emotion. I take those moments to thank God. I rejoice in His promises. Because I have the hope of salvation I know that I have the hope of seeing them again.

What are You Wearing? Proverbs 31:25

What are you clothed in?

If you are anything like me, you may have been clothed in fear and anxiety. In the past, I had life circumstances that left me in constant anxiety and fear. Fear of death, fear of harm, fear of abandonment, fear of loss.

Even when I actually began walking with God, fear remained my mantle. I wanted to let go of it, but it was so familiar that I didn’t know how.

Slowly, over the years God has removed my fear piece by piece and layer by layer.

He has revealed Himself to me and proven to me that I can trust Him. He will never hurt me, leave me, nor forsake me.

There are still small areas of fear He is pruning out but when I am afraid I choose to trust in God!

ā€œWhenever I am afraid,
I will trust in You.
In God (I will praise His word),
In God I have put my trust;
I will not fear.
What can flesh do to me?ā€

Psalm 56:3-4 NKJV

Whatever you are wearing today, if it is not from God, take it off. Make a choice to trust Him in all circumstances. So that you may put on STRENGTH and HONOR. Just like the Woman of Valor does in Proverbs 31:25.

Let us laugh without fear of the future!
